We designed a new tactile signage for the visually impaired people to find venues with complete independence. This is a new vocabulary system that allows visually impaired people to recognize exactly what type of basic services or business is in front of them just by tapping the sidewalk with their cane. So, they no longer need to rely on assistance from others, enabling them to move around with greater autonomy. The project is open-source to help millions of people worldwide.
The ad 'Sightwalks' features a project designed to give visually impaired individuals greater independence when navigating urban environments. It highlights a new tactile signage system developed by Cemento Sol in collaboration with organizations for the visually impaired in Peru. The system allows individuals to identify specific types of venues using distinct patterns on sidewalks. Various scenes show people using the tactile markers with their canes, demonstrating how the system works to identify locations like restaurants and grocery stores. The ad emphasizes the project's simplicity and adaptability, showcasing a Peruvian district, Miraflores, as the first to implement this system. Additional scenes detail the educational programs initiated to familiarize the visually impaired community with this new system, including workshops and braille brochures. The project is noted as open-source, encouraging other regions to adopt similar practices to enhance accessibility and independence worldwide.
